Charm of China

1. This documentary series is the first of its kind featuring the richness and diversity of cultures and traditions of ethnic minorities in China and highlighting representative oral and intangible cultural heritage masterpieces. Centering on the theme of “origin, development and continuation”, the documentary series will shoot the most representative ICH elements and unique cultural traditions of 55 ethnic minorities in China, reviewing the memory, evolution and continuation of their history and culture and their persistent pursuit of the common ideal and cultural dignity of the Chinese nation. This epic documentary series will demonstrate the pious reflection on the relationship between man and nature, vividly describe the social evolution, ethnic charm and free life of ethnic minorities in China, and profoundly reveal the richness of Chinese cultural traditions.
2. This documentary series, presented in both Chinese and English editions, is the first panoramic review of the unique cultures and traditions of ethnic minorities in China. Featuring historical evolution and cultural continuation characterized by unity in diversity, it will present a multi-perspective, all-round panorama of the essential nature and unusual charm of ICH elements of ethnic minorities in China.  
3. This documentary series will comprise of three seasons, totaling 60 episodes, with the length of 30 minutes for each episode. It will be distributed worldwide.
The first season will feature ethnic minorities dwelling in northern China, including Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and Qinghai, totaling 20 episodes.
The second season will feature ethnic minorities dwelling in the east, middle and south parts of China, totaling 20 episodes.
The third season will feature ethnic minorities dwelling in southwestern China, totaling 20 episodes.
4. This documentary series is a priority project financed by the National Publication Foundation 2015-2016. With President Xi Jinping’s remarks, “telling good Chinese stories and spreading the voice of China”, as its guiding principle, the documentary series will shoot the cultures and traditions of ethnic minorities in China in a panoramic and authentic manner and highlight the close, interdependent relations among various ethnic groups of China, so that the people from the rest of the world will learn that ethnic minority cultures comprise of an important part of Chinese civilization. The documentary series will apply new technology and new thinking of the international documentary community. It will be aimed at showcasing to the rest of the world the development and progress of cultures of ethnic minorities in China, developing a brand name of international cultural exchange featuring Chinese characteristics and style, opening a window through which the people from the rest of the world will learn about the cultures and traditions of ethnic minorities in China, and making important contribution to the protection of cultural heritages of ethnic minorities in China and the promotion of “going global” of ethnic minority cultures and traditions.
